Toughened Switchable Smart Glass

Product Overview

Switchable Smart Glass Front Projection Screens offer a cutting-edge solution for dynamic display needs, combining privacy control with advanced projection capabilities. Unlike traditional rear projection films, these screens are designed as rigid, finished units, integrating PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) Switchable Technology on sturdy substrates like glass or acrylic. This unique construction enables the screens to switch instantly from transparent to frosted, allowing high-definition front projection in the frosted state, and presenting dual image properties when configured for front or rear projection.

To give Switchable Front / Dual Image Projection properties we must produce this as a finished rigid projection screen, unlike our Rear Projection option which is also available as a self-adhesive film. This product is manufactured using a specialist coated substrate alongside our PDLC Switchable Technology integrated onto a rigid substrate like glass or acrylic using our in-house patented processes.

We can supply these Switchable Smart Privacy Glass Projection Screens with pre drilled holes and a tear drop suspension kit with steel wires to be ceiling hung like an advertising screen or even like normal glazing for a partition run. Each of the screens come with our step down Transformer AC (48-65V) and RF remote control switch (if required). A simple ON – OFF mode switches the rigid screen from being clear (transparent) to frosted (opaque) and in its frosted state the glass becomes an effects screen for front viewing and HD on the rear side so it actually gives dual image properties (projector on one side but an image on both – flipped on one side depending if the projector is set to “front” or “rear” projection).

Standard screen sizes of our Switchable Smart Glass Projection Screens range from 65″-145″ diagonal or custom sizes are available upon request.

Alternatively panels can be manufactured to any size and joined to create large format displays. These switchable smart glass screens have a very minimal look which will blend easily into any architectural or contemporary interior, making them the ideal screen choice for both historical buildings (churches, museums, theatres and concert halls) and modern hi-tech environments (hotels, offices, stadiums, shopping malls).

Is there a difference in price between Front and Rear Projection Screens?

Yes there is an uplift in price for the Front Projection Switchable Screens due to an additional manufacturing process and optical layer being required.

Can I rear project onto Front Projection Screens?

Yes, you can. This screen will actually work as dual image, so will display an image on both sides. Obviously the image will be reversed on one side, this will be determined by whether the projector is set to rear or front projection.

Do you offer standard screen sizes?

All of our Switchable Smart Glass screens are custom manufactured to order, with a maximum seamless size of 4000mm x 1800mm. We do list standard screen sizes ranging from 55” – 145” diagonal in a 16:9 aspect ratio to standardise the offering but custom is always available. Speak with our team to produce your perfect screen size.

What is the reason I would choose Switchable Front Projection over Rear Projection?

The main reason for opting for Front Projection Switchable over Rear is due to limitation on space and not having the ability to use Rear Projection.

Do you recommend a specific type of Projector/Projection?

Our Front Projection Switchable Glass has been used with all different types of projectors, it is certainly worth testing units for your specific application to ensure you get the right effect. As our Front Projection Smart Glass utilises an additional optical layer it can become quite reflective, so projecting off axis to bounce the image out of the viewers line of vision is recommended.
